Week numero 3

So, I must say that I am quite thankful for the meeting we had on Monday night. I feel like I am up to date on the tasks I have to complete, now, and in the next couple of years as I continue the journey of becoming an educator. I think that chalkandwire will be helpful and a nice little tool for future employers, but it's a downer that it costs money. On that note the PPST (which I am officially signed up for as of tonight = )) costs quite a chunk of dinero as well. This is upsetting, but it's one of those things that you have to take with a grain of salt. I understand the need to make sure that educators are qualified, but there are enough other things that we have to do to prove that we are competent enough to become educators, I just think that it's a bit ridiculous. I guess this is why we have to pay more attention to what we are doing when we vote, which is why I went to the LSEA Meeting tonight. I think that it was really good to hear both side's views on what they plan to do with the Education situation at hand.

Anyways...yes- this costs a lot of money, but it will be totally worth it once we get into that classroom!!!

Week numero 2

What I really got out of the movie, (other than our government and the war sucks), is that it as a teacher, it is your job to really inspire students to see their true potential. I like the way someone put it, "teaching is holding up a mirror for students to see themselves in". I think that as a teacher, it is our job to guide them along, but at some point we have to make sure that they are making their own decisions, and are thinking independently.

In our group discussion we talked a lot about NCLB, and we came to a consensus that it has pushed some students to the wayside to make sure that "no child is left behind". We also discussed teaching lines, and what we think "stepping over the line" exactly is. Furthermore, we discussed "what is good teaching", and we thought that being open to adjusting for each individual class that you have, and re-inventing each class is good teaching. We discussed how all of this has come into play in our own schooling. It was a very engaging group discussion. I enjoyed it.

Week numero 1

So this is my blog for Educational Psychology. I am supposed to write about the movie Lions for Lambs, but we had some technical problems with the DVD and were not really able to watch it. From the little snippet that I have seen thus far it seems good. It has Meryl Streep, which I must say that the whole time we were watching the movie, and she'd pop up on the screen I would think about "Mamma Mia!" for a second. I really like that movie. You gotta love ABBA. Anyways... I hope the DVD works next week.
